Down the back of the chair

Once you have an exemption, you can gain access to a login to Down the back of the Chair, a government supplier of early readers and phonics books. the books and postage are all free. The website can be a bit tricky to navigate, so feel free to ask Nia for help. These books are perfect for early, new and emerging readers.

CURRICULUM Help

We are forunate in Taranaki to have Chris and Krystal Watts from Engaging Minds, who are based in Hawera. They stock excellent homeschool curriculum and are also happy to have a chat about what might work best for you and yours if you are deciding to use curriculum

It can also be worth having some good chats with our families about what they do and don’t use, and have a look to see if you think it would suit.

FUNDED PERIOD PRODUCTS

Homeschoolers qualify for funded period products through the Ministry of Education. Currently the only Taranaki contact is Nia Chesswas, out of Stratford. Pads and tampons are available, in a 6 month supply. Please contact Nia to organise collection (Tuesdays are preferred).

NZ UNIT STUDIES

So often unit studies are American based — Kirsty from Peace Through Grace has great and affordable unit studies that are NZ based!

Twinkl is also a great resource for NZ curriculum work/supplements.
